Match report Great opening day at Escrick Park against a very strong Percy Casuals side.
The match was also the debut of caterer, Robert, and all agree he will be a tremendous asset to the club.
A day of glorious (albeit breezy) uninterrupted sunshine saw the YG's bat first. A solid foundation way laid with good knocks by David O'Kelly - Mr Dependable - (63) and Geoff Barker (59). Tight lines from Tom Atkinson of the Percy Casuals ensured both teams lunched well with the game nicely poised at 96-1. Steady post lunch progress was made before a need to accelerate the score in the run up to the declaration saw a brief flurry of wickets - too much lunchtime gratin may have accounted for David O'Kelly failing to make his ground going for a tight single. However, an excellent knock by Dan White (42) ably supported by John Tempest and Andrew Brewster saw the YG's post a very respectable 203-6 declared.


The YG's reply in the field started unfortunately with opening bowler Tom Tempest pulling up in the first over but Andrew Brewster - with no luck - and Dan White bowled well before tea was taken with the Casuals on 36-0. Post tea saw the Casuals take control of the game before the introduction of Chris Warner - on debut - (4-28 ) and Lawrence White (2-29) and two superb catches from Ben White.


However, good lower order batting and the arrival of Matt Westwood for the Casuals put the game back in the balance before some canny leg spin from Geoff Barker (3-19) backed by good all round fielding saw the YG'S home with two overs to spare.


A thoroughly enjoyable game of cricket in near perfect conditions for the opener of the season at Escrick.
